Lockport, New York

Lockport Public Library

A book sale cleared in a single visit.

The challenge

A successful Friends of the Library sale left more than 100 boxes of books and DVDs to clear. The volume was difficult for the group to handle through its usual process.

How we helped

The group contacted us on a Monday. We arranged a Wednesday pickup, brought multiple team members, and collected everything in one visit.

The result

100+ boxes collected in one visit

The group now contacts us when planning sales. A reliable collection afterward gives volunteers more flexibility without the same cleanup and storage worries.

From a library partner

A word from the Friends.

“We’re pleased to have found Sustainable Books to take our unsold books after our spring and fall book sales. The process is simple and convenient: I contact Anthony to arrange a pickup, and a member of his team picks up the books at the scheduled time.

We’re grateful that Sustainable Books gives our surplus books a second life.

In the past, we struggled to find homes for our unsold books, so this service has been a great help to us.”

A few useful answers

Your collection and ordering questions.

Can you help with library book disposal?

Contact us about collection for library discards and withdrawn books, including books left after a sale. Start with your location, approximate quantity, book condition, and the date you need the space cleared. We will discuss what we can accept and how collection would work.

Can you provide a sustainability report for our library?

Yes. Ask for a collection summary when booking. It can include recorded quantities or weight and available reuse or recycling information. Carbon savings are estimates, included only when supported by data, with the method explained. We agree the format and timing with your library.

Can you pick up books after a library sale?

Yes. We welcome post-sale collection inquiries from libraries and Friends groups. Share the sale date, likely volume, and access details so we can check availability before you plan around a pickup.

What books can you collect, and how should we prepare them?

Share the book types and condition, approximate volume, sale or clearance date, how the books are stored, and building or loading access. We will confirm the books we can accept and agree preparation and collection arrangements with your team.

Can we donate or sell our library discards?

We discuss collection and purchasing options individually. Tell us about the books and your collection needs; any terms are agreed with your library before the collection.

Do we need to scan or list every book first?

No. Start with an approximate quantity and a description of the books. We will discuss preparation and any further details with your team.

Can we buy bulk books or request specific ISBNs?

Yes. Send titles or ISBNs where relevant, quantities, reading levels, and condition requirements. We will check availability or sourcing, then agree pricing and collection or delivery details before an order goes ahead.
